Yes, ear infections, pain, discharge, hearing loss are treatable, depending on the stage of the patient and other factors.
Patient can get back to regular routine within 24 hours and get back to work within 2-3 days.
The scar in case of Endoscopic Ear Surgery is minimal and at the back of the ear, not visible at all to people interacting with the patient. Also there is no shaving of the hair involved.
It is advised to maintain the ear dry for about 3-4 weeks. However hair can be washed within 1-2 days of the surgery.
  • After waking up from the surgery you might feel a little drowsy until the anesthesia wears off.
  • There will be ear pack inside your ear canal and cotton placed in your pinna
  • 2-3 sutures will be present in the scalp area inside the hairline from where the graft would have been harvested. Some amount of soreness can be expected for few hours.
  • There will not be any mastoid bandage. Your head and face would be free from any bandage or dressing.
  • If a cartilage has been taken from behind your pinna (conchal cartilage) for the purpose of reconstruction, you can expect 2 sutures at the back side of the pinna.
  • You will be asked to sleep straight or towards the opposite side with surgical side facing up for few days.
  • You will be able to get up and walk around in about 4-5 hours after surgery and can eat normal food after 4 hours of surgery.
  • You will be discharged on the same evening as day care patient. But if you are going through insurance process for your surgery, you might have to stay for 24 hours in total.
  • Antibiotics and analgesics (pain killers) will be given in the form of injectable till you get discharged.
  • You will be discharged on oral antibiotics, analgesics and anti-histaminic for 5 days. You will have to apply an antibiotic ointment where sutures are present for about 1 week.
  • You will experience some heaviness in the operated ear. It is expected after surgery.
  • You will have to remove the cotton placed in the pinna and change everyday
  • Care should be taken not to remove the canal pack. Be careful while removing the cotton since sometimes the canal pack might get stuck to the cotton and can come out while you remove the cotton.
  • Clear the scalp with antiseptic solution and apply antibiotic ointment for 1 week
  • Keep the suture site dry.
  • U can take bath from next day. You can do hair wash from third day. After bathing, dry the area and apply ointment.
  • Keep cotton soaked with vaseline or cold cream or swimming ear plugs in the pinna to avoid water entry in the ear for about 3-4 weeks.
  • You can perform all your routine activities / work / attend school, etc. Strenuous exercises / contact games / swimming / flight travel should be avoided for 3 weeks after surgery.
  • Smoking / drinking is strictly prohibited
  • Call us at any time if you have any other concerns.
  • You will be asked to visit us 3 weeks after surgery for follow up during which we will remove the sutures and the canal pack and clean your ears.
  • Usually only one visit after surgery is required. Call us immediately in case of any other concerns.
  • You will experience a block in your operated ear for 3 weeks because of the canal pack.
  • You will be able to hear better once the pack is removed.
  • The middle ear healing takes 2-3 months. As per protocol, hearing improvement is measured by means of puretone audiometry during the follow up visit at the third month after surgery.
